PLA begins softening at around 60 °C, a temperature an Egyptian car interior or a sunny window ledge exceeds routinely. That single fact should drive most material decisions here, and it is the one most often discovered the hard way — by a part that performed perfectly indoors and deformed into uselessness after an afternoon in a parked car.
PLA
The easiest material to print: no enclosure required, excellent detail, low odour, widest colour range. It is the right default for models, prototypes, and anything living indoors.
Its weakness is heat, as above. Do not use it for car interiors, outdoor fittings, or anything near a window in summer.
PETG
The sensible general-purpose upgrade, and the material most functional parts in Egypt should be printed in. It tolerates heat considerably better than PLA, is far tougher and less brittle, and resists moisture and chemicals well.
It prints without an enclosure, though it is slightly more demanding — stringing is the common complaint, and it is usually cured by drying the filament and tuning retraction rather than by anything more complicated.
ABS and ASA
Both handle high temperature well. ASA additionally resists UV, which is what stops an outdoor part turning chalky and brittle after months of sun.
Both need an enclosure — they warp and split in a draught — and both produce fumes that require ventilation.
Use ASA for anything permanently outdoors. Use ABS for hot indoor applications where UV is not a factor.
TPU and flexibles
Rubber-like filament for gaskets, phone cases, wheels and vibration mounts. It prints slowly and dislikes long or convoluted filament paths, so a direct-drive extruder handles it far better than a Bowden setup.
Composite and filled filaments
Carbon-fibre and glass-filled filaments add stiffness and dimensional stability. The catch is abrasion: they destroy standard brass nozzles quickly, so a hardened nozzle is not optional but a prerequisite.
Resin
A different process with a different cost profile. Resin delivers detail filament cannot approach, and in exchange every print needs washing in isopropyl alcohol, curing under UV, and careful handling in gloves with ventilation.
Standard resins are hard but brittle. Tough and engineering resins close some of that gap. Choose resin for detail, never to save money.

Storage is not optional here
All filament absorbs moisture from the air, and coastal humidity accelerates it considerably. Wet filament produces stringing, weak layer bonding, rough surfaces and audible popping as trapped water flashes to steam in the nozzle.
PETG, nylon and TPU are especially hygroscopic. Store spools sealed with desiccant, and dry filament that has been left out — a few hours at low temperature in a filament dryer restores most of it.
If prints suddenly deteriorate with no other change, suspect moisture before suspecting the printer. It is the most common cause of a machine that ‘used to print fine’.
Resin has the opposite problem: it is degraded by light rather than water. Keep it in its opaque bottle away from windows, and cool — resin left in sunlight cures in the bottle and becomes waste.
A test worth doing
Before committing to a material for an outdoor or in-car part, print a small test piece and leave it in that exact location for a week. It costs a few grams and an afternoon, and it is considerably cheaper than discovering the limitation after printing the finished item.
